PRC Response to COVID-19

April 2021

Dear PRC Community,

Thank you for being a strong partner with People’s Resource Center.  As we welcome the start of spring, I wanted to take a moment to look back at the past year since the pandemic began and share updates and continued gratitude.  Your overwhelming generosity and encouragement have truly made it possible to live out PRC’s mission of neighbors helping neighbors.

The past 12 months have brought extreme challenges as well as inspiring examples of kindness.  We have adapted our food pantry for safety during the pandemic.  Food is currently provided outdoors to neighbors in need.

Since last March, we have distributed over 45,000 grocery carts of food and necessities with our ongoing modified services approach and provided food and social services assistance to over 4,700 total households.  21% of families are visiting PRC for the first time, 42% include seniors and over half are households with children.   In addition to food, we have seen record numbers of families seeking help for financial assistance to prevent homelessness.   The combined health crisis of the pandemic, along with job instability in many sectors, has resulted in extreme and continued need for many neighbors.

At the same time, our Empowerment team has adapted programs to be provided online.  PRC’s classes and workshops have engaged neighbors with help in job searches and career planning, training on new computer skills, advancing skills in literacy and education, and building community through online art classes.  Our online programs have reached over 2,000 neighbors with programming during the pandemic.

In this time of extraordinary need, the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors has truly shined through.  We especially celebrate the countless ways the entire DuPage community has stepped up to support PRC’s mission of service.  Our PRC friends and supporters have stepped up to provide inspiring messages of encouragement as well as financial contributions.  Civic clubs, faith groups and businesses have partnered to host food and supply drives to support our food pantries.  And we have had over 1,400 new volunteers sign up to help provide services to our clients.

Thank you again for supporting PRC over the years – and special thanks for your continued support of our mission during this past year.  We know we will get through this time because of this community’s compassion.  And PRC’s mission of service will be needed more than ever.  More information will be coming in the days and weeks ahead.

From all of us at PRC, we wish you good health and safety.
