Local gardeners encouraged to donate fresh produce this summer

Wheaton, IL, May 12, 2026: This growing season, People’s Resource Center invites local gardeners to help their neighbors facing food insecurity. As you plan, plant, and grow your gardens, PRC encourages you to cultivate an extra row of vegetables or allocate a portion of your freshly grown goods for PRC’s Food Pantry.   

 “The number one most requested item at our pantries is produce,” explains Ashley Frank, Senior Manager of Food Sourcing and Programs at PRC, “We want to make sure that every time neighbors come to PRC, there is a variety of fresh produce available.”  

However, with new barriers to SNAP benefits and increased expenses for many, People’s Resource Center anticipates food insecurity to significantly increase in DuPage County. “Our community thrives when we all work together—even in tough times,” notes Kiya Becket, Senior Manager of Food Pantry Operations, “Every tomato, pepper or squash from local gardens helps ensure everyone has access to healthy food.”   

Where to donate: Items can be dropped off at PRC’s Food Pantries in Wheaton or Westmont. Food donation locations and hours are as follows: 
Wheaton, 211 S. Naperville Road: Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 4:30pm and Saturday 8am – 11:00pm.
Westmont, 104 Chestnut Ave: Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 4:30pm and Saturday 8am – 12:00pm.  

Donations from local gardeners will increase both the quantity and quality of the food People’s Resource Center offers our neighbors.
