PEOPLE’S RESOURCE CENTER RECEIVES GENEROUS GIFT FROM CLARENDON HILLS LIONS CLUB

The Clarendon Hills Lions Club donation will purchase a 20-foot refrigerated box truck to expand the human services agency’s ability to transport fresh food.

(Westmont, Illinois) July 14, 2020 – People’s Resource Center (PRC) received a substantial donation from the Clarendon Hills Lions Club to purchase a new refrigerated box truck to expand the agency’s capacity to provide fresh, healthy items for DuPage families.

“Currently, PRC does not have a refrigerated vehicle, which creates limitations for safe food transportation, especially in the hot summer months,” said Jeni Fabian, executive director. “This vehicle will be a game-changer for PRC in expanding our reach of food pickups.”

PRC obtains much of its food from its Food Rescue Program. Volunteer Rescue Drivers make nearly 80 pickups each week from retail partners and other donor organizations. Overall, PRC rescued 1,714,336 pounds of unused food from 60 food rescue partners last year.

“The Clarendon Hills Lions Club is thrilled to be able to provide funding to the PRC to purchase a refrigerated truck to keep the food pantry stocked in the Westmont location in this difficult time,” said Jon Arendt, president of the Clarendon Hills Lions Club. “Our neighbors have been blessed to be able to tap into PRC for the food pantry, job assistance, and more, and we’re pleased to help ensure they can continue to get the help they need.”

The Clarendon Hills Lions Club is excited to offer a donation Challenge Initiative to Lions Club Chapters within DuPage County.  This Initiative invites the other clubs to make their own gift to PRC in partnership with the Clarendon Hills Chapter.

Last year, PRC distributed 39,884 carts of groceries to families in need, and provided services across all program areas to over 25,000 neighbors.  PRC serves clients from all backgrounds throughout DuPage County, and over half of those assisted by PRC services are children and seniors.

“We are deeply grateful for Clarendon Hills Lions Club’s partnership in serving the community,” Fabian said. “A refrigerated truck will make an immediate difference in our ability to provide nutritious fruits and vegetables, dairy, and meat options.”
