Notice: We have temporarily paused some of our refurbishing services to catch up on outstanding requests. At this time, we can only schedule computer repairs for current PRC clients with a PRC number. Refurbished computer requests and any requests from non-PRC clients will be fulfilled, starting September 1. Response times might be slightly slower than usual, but we will do our best to get back to you within two business days. We appreciate your patience.
Computer ownership and skills have become essential in our digital world, but not everyone has equal access. Digital tools – something many of us take for granted – allow people to find jobs, complete schoolwork, and lead more connected and enriching lives.
The Computer Access program at People’s Resource Center helps bridge the digital divide by connecting clients with refurbished devices that meet their needs and repairing computers they already own.
Who can use the Computer Access program?
Adults living in DuPage County who have registered as a PRC client may receive one refurbished computer per household. Clients may also bring their computers in for repairs, whether the computer is from PRC or somewhere else. All Computer Access services are free of charge and are available by appointment.
Computer Training classes are also available to clients who wish to strengthen their digital skills. Learn more here.
What devices does the Computer Access program work with?
The Computer Access team refurbishes Windows computers up to five years old. All refurbished Windows computers include Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2019.
Device inventory is based on donations. Desktop computers, all-in-ones, and Chromebooks are usually available. Desktop computers include CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, Wi-Fi adapter, webcam and speakers, and all cords.
Due to limited laptop availability, we cannot guarantee that all laptop requests can be fulfilled.
We do not work with tablets, mobile phones, or Apple/Mac products.
How to get started
Computer Access services are available by appointment only. To make an appointment, reach out to the Computer Access team at 630-682-5402 x247 or computeraccess@peoplesrc.org. We will follow up within two business days to discuss your technology needs.
For computer requests, we will ask some questions to evaluate your tech needs. Next, we will review the information you provided and assess our inventory to match you with the best device for you. Lastly, we will share our personalized device recommendations, finalize your computer request, and schedule an appointment for you to pick up your refurbished computer.
Donations are essential to maintain our refurbished computer inventory. We accept donations by appointment. To schedule an appointment, reach out to Todd Howard at 630.384.1360 or thoward@peoplesrc.org.
