At PRC, we believe diverse, informed communities are strong communities. Our neighbors speak over 50 languages and have varying levels of literacy and confidence. The Adult Learning and Literacy Department empowers adults to reach their family, education, community, and career goals by offering equitable, lifelong learning opportunities.
We provide a supportive environment with resources for basic literacy, English language learning, high school equivalency, citizenship prep, and digital skills. PRC also trains volunteer tutors and builds partnerships to expand our impact.

Conversation Class Information
Interested in practicing your speaking? Join one of our in person or online conversation classes. Before joining, you will be given a speaking test to place you in the correct level class. For more information, reach out to Maggie Humbert at ec@peoplesrc.org or 630-682-5402 x333.
Interested in Volunteering for the Literacy Program?
Volunteers are required to complete a 12-hour tutor training and a background check before beginning to tutor. All resources, lesson plans and curriculum is provided by the PRC. Tutoring commitment is about 1-1.5 hours a week, per student. Volunteers are connected to clients based on both indviduals’ availability.
