Bill Thompson: Making a Difference

“Opportunities to meet new people and establish new friendships are rewarding, but to see the gleam in someone's eye or the smile on their face brings joy to all of us who volunteer."

Bill Thompson has been volunteering with People's Resource Center for more than six years.  He started volunteering on a weekly basis, along with his wife Melody, after his retirement from AT&T.  Bill's primary role as a volunteer is with PRC's computer training program.

As a Computer Service Representative, Bill helps students sign up for computer classes, provides assistance for people using PRC's computer lab, assists families who are receiving a “new” refurbished computer for their homes, and helps clients who bring in their computers for repairs and updates.

Bill says that he has seen the program grow significantly during the years he has served as a volunteer. “The need for our services has grown considerably.  Usage of the computer training room has grown tremendously.  More and more clients have come to the realization that they can't move forward without computer skills.”

Bill says that his experience as a volunteer has been very meaningful. “Opportunities to meet new people and establish new friendships are rewarding, but to see the gleam in someone's eye or the smile on their face brings joy to all of us who volunteer.  That is all you need to realize that you do make a difference in someone else's life.”
