The People's Resource Center (PRC) is quite literally a lifeline in DuPage County to those who pass through its doors. It serves as the first embrace for the refugee, or for those who find themselves in a difficult life situation, meeting family needs on a very low income. The PRC services help bring them closer to the mainstream, overcoming the many barriers encountered in their daily struggles. In so doing, the PRC strengthens the whole community by genuinely trying to make our neighbors' lives better and more meaningful.
Every day at PRC, volunteers and resources come together to make it possible for others to find a pathway to a better future. There are over 300 professional volunteers working in the following positions: English tutors, computer technicians and instructors, artists, translators, and program administration. There are over 200 support staff volunteers working as receptionists, clerks especially for client intake and computer data entry, food and clothes sorters, food packers, distributors, and stockers.
Although proof of DuPage County residency is a requirement to be a client of the PRC, eligibility restrictions are kept to a minimum. Copy of a utility bill indicating the client's home address suffices. This requirement makes for efficiency and speed during the distribution of the food boxes or other service.
PRC remains responsive to the growing needs of our county's residents while standing true to our mission and vision. PRC will continue to be a source of hope and opportunity and create a future that embodies those ideals. The People's Resource Center will always respond to the basic needs of the community but it needs to be about so much more than that. Through our services and programs, staff, and volunteers, PRC will foster justice and dignity, hope and opportunity for all our families.
