The People's Resource Center has been actively involved in several housing assistance programs since 1985. For fifteen years, the PRC has been instrumental in bringing together nonprofit and governmental agencies to support homeless families in their quest for long term, stable solutions. First, PRC initiatives and efforts started P.A.D.S., a homeless shelter in DuPage County which is now a separate non-profit organization. Secondly, PRC coordinates and provides fiscal management of a countywide distribution of rent/mortgage assistance to prevent eviction/foreclosure for economically distressed households in partnership with the DuPage County Department of Human Services and Catholic Charities. Lastly, PRC was instrumental in initiating SHIFT (Supportive Housing Initiative for Families in Transition). SHIFT is a HUD-funded multi-agency collaborative effort to improve the service delivery system for homeless families needing transitional housing. Since SHIFT's inception five years ago, PRC has coordinated services and continues to compile countywide data on a regular basis tracking all the people who are seeking homeless services.
